THE NEW B&W (BOWERS AND WILKINS) 600 SERIES S2:

683 S2

The largest speaker in the 600 Series. This floorstander is ideal for audiophile stereo and home theatre applications in larger rooms, delivering serious performance and amazing value.

The 683 S2 features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter - technology evolved from Bowers & Wilkins CM10 speaker. The double dome design uses an extremely thin aluminium dome for lightness, surrounded by a thicker aluminium ring for rigidity. The result is a far more precise treble performance. And while the tweeter looks like it’s part of the main speaker, it’s physically separated in its own gel-filled cavity, so performance isn’t hit by unwanted resonances or vibrations, for a more natural, spacious sound.

Serious and accurate bass performance is equally vital to such a room-filling speaker. That’s why the 683 S2 features a new bass driver construction method, using a similar method of bracing to the tweeter with twin layers of aluminium. The richer, distortion-free bass response is sumptuous.

As well as new bass driver construction techniques and a new tweeter, brought in from Bower & Wilkins high-end series, the 683 S2 also boasts an FST Kevlar midrange driver. Serious technology, serious performance, but seriously affordable for a speaker of this calibre.

683

684 S2

Room-filling sound without a room-filling speaker cabinet. Slimmer than ever before, the 684 S2 offers an amazing combination of floorstander power, audio performance and unbeatable value.

Switching to 5-inch bass/midrange drivers from the previous 6.5-inch cones, means the 684 S2 is now significantly slimmer than its predecessor, with simultaneously improved audio performance, thanks to Bowers & Wilkins innovation. The two Kevlar cone drivers benefit from smaller voice coils to increase sensitivity.

The 5-inch drivers now also feature Anti-Resonance Plug dustcaps, technology taken from our high-end PM1 speakers, that improve pistonic movement inside the voice coil. This helps to deliver amazingly distortion-free midrange performance, all in a smaller space.

As well as slimmer, improved driver performance, the 684 S2 also features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter. Double dome technology, brought across from the CM10, increases tweeter rigidity for a more precise sound, while the tweeter sits in a gel-filled cavity, decoupled from the surrounding cabinet - which removes resonances and vibrations, for a more natural, spacious sound.

684

685 S2

At home on a stand, wall or bookshelf, the versatile 685 S2 is ideal for stereo and home theatre uses in most rooms. And performance is enhanced with the addition of a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter.

The Decoupled Double Dome tweeter found in the 685 S2, and the rest of the new 600 Series, is technology taken straight from our award-winning CM10 speaker. A dual-layer design combines a thin aluminium dome for lightness and a thicker aluminium ring for rigidity – the result is absolutely stunning, with far greater clarity in the audible spectrum.

The tweeter is also decoupled from the main cabinet, kept physically separate in its own cavity with a ring of gel cushioning it from vibrations. This improves imaging and dispersion for a more natural, spacious treble.

As well as a decoupled, double dome aluminium tweeter, the two-way 685 S2 features a full-range 6.5-inch driver constructed from woven Kevlar and using Anti-Resonance Plug dustcaps, as seen in high-end Bowers & Wilkins speakers. The result is stunning audio quality from a highly versatile smaller speaker.

685

686 S2

Small is beautiful. The 686 S2 is the most compact speaker in the series, but don’t underestimate its power and precision. That's thanks to a new Decoupled Double Dome tweeter and improved design.

An ideal bookshelf or wall-mounted speaker, the 686 S2 is designed to fit into any space and still sound perfect. Its main driver is a 5-inch bass/midrange unit which benefits from a new 25mm voice coil which makes for a higher sensitivity speaker with bass more suited for placement near a wall.

Bass performance is vital but can often suffer in smaller speakers. Not in the 686 S2, however. That's because a front-firing Flowport, dimpled like a golf ball around the aperture for smoothly regulated airflow, delivers superior bass response without the risk of rattle. Its placement ensures the speaker cabinet is slimmer than predecessors and can be wall mounted without affecting performance.

Like the rest of the range, and despite its smaller size, the 686 S2 also features a Decoupled Double Dome aluminium tweeter for superior high-frequency response. The 686 S2 even features a built-in bracket for easy wall mounting, although this small, versatile and precise speaker sounds great anywhere.

686

HTM61 S2

The perfect partner for the 683 S2 in a commanding home theatre system, this true three-way centre speaker features two 6.5-inch drivers, an FST midrange and a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter.

The HTM61 S2 now features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, ideal for delivering the clarity needed for dialogue. The double dome enhances rigidity without adding weight, for a more precise response, while decoupling the tweeter from the main enclosure removes unwanted resonances and vibration. The result is absolutely clear.

Using construction techniques found in the 600 Series floorstanders, the HTM61 S2 also features two 6.5-inch bass drivers that use new aluminium cones, for an ideal mix of punch and precision.

Below the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter and between the two 6.5-inch bass drivers lies an FST enclosure midrange driver. And to the rear of the speaker are two Flowports. Together these ensure stunning audio clarity is carried across the entire frequency range, and a new symmetrical design improves intergration and sound dispersion. The result is a serious centre speaker - stunning for big-screen action.

HTM61

HTM62 S2

Ideal at the centre of most home theatre systems, the HTM62 S2 is the smaller centre speaker that still excels at delivering power and precision.

Like its bigger sibling the HTM61 S2, the HTM62 S2 now features an improved Decoupled Double dome tweeter design, ideal for delivering the clarity needed for dialogue. The double dome delivers a more precise response, while decoupling the tweeter from the main enclosure removes unwanted resonances and vibration. The result is absolutely clear.

The HTM62 S2 also features two 5-inch drivers that use Kevlar cones, for an ideal mix of punch and precision. The result, combined with the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, is a centre speaker that sounds simply stunning.

The clarity and power of the HTM62 doesn't command a space premium either. Smaller than the HTM61, it's absolutely at home in just about any setup. And like the HTM62, it can be used horizontally or vertically, depending on space.

HTM62

DS3 SURROUND SPEAKER

The DS3 is a wall-mounted surround speaker that can operate in either ‘dipole’ or ‘monopole’ modes, to create an authentic all-enveloping effect of the auditorium in a large space.

For large home theatre installations, choose a pair of rear speakers that can get you closer to the true surround sound of the cinema.

The DS3 is a wall-mounted surround speaker that can operate in what’s called ‘dipole’ mode, to create an authentic all-enveloping effect of the auditorium in a large space. Or, you may prefer to switch to conventional ‘monopole’ operation, in which the sound from side or rear is more precisely located and less diffuse. The choice depends on the room conditions, the size of the audience and the kind of material on view.

Whichever mode you select, the sound quality is superlative, supplied by a 130mm Kevlar® cone bass/midrange, twin midrange/high frequency units and a Nautilus™ tube-loaded tweeter.

B&W (BOWERS AND WILKINS) 600 RANGE:

Performance for all Bowers & Wilkins launches new 600 Series The new Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series dramatically improves on the existing range’s legendary combination of outstanding value and exemplary audio performance. The new 600 Series brings high-end sound quality within the reach of more people than ever before, using the cutting-edge technologies and class-leading design for which Bowers & Wilkins is renowned. Bowers & Wilkins existing 600 Series of hi-fi and home cinema speakers has won a host of awards for its mix of value and performance.

Now, six new speakers radically revamp the entire range and dramatically improve every element of its design. The resulting range – versatile, discreetly stylish and able to compete against far more expensive rivals – sets an all-new standard for affordable loudspeakers. This remarkable breakthrough has been achieved with the careful application of both established and all-new technologies. The new 600 Series utilises tried-and-tested Bowers & Wilkins engineering solutions from other ranges – Double Dome Tweeters derived from the CM10 speaker, Anti-Resonance Plugs for mid/bass drive units and, of course, Bowers & Wilkins iconic Kevlar® cones. Added to these proven technologies are new advances developed specifically for the new 600 Series, including new Dual Layer aluminium bass drivers and new tweeter decoupling technology.

The Decoupled Double Dome tweeter is a major technological advance, and comprises two separate aluminium domes, the second with its centre portion cut out and glued to the rear face of the first dome to create a remarkable blend of lightness and rigidity. In the new 600 Series, the entire tweeter assembly is further decoupled, being physically separated from the cabinet by a cushioning gel ring. The resulting Decoupled Double Dome tweeter has stunning clarity and tonal purity plus outstanding imaging and dispersion. Together, the result is a step change in capability for affordable loudspeaker design, one that propels the new 600 Series firmly to the top of its class. The new 600 Series is ideal not just for stereo hi-fi applications – making the most of everything from vinyl to FLAC – but also home cinema.

The range includes two all-new centre channel speakers plus three subwoofers with matching finishes. The 683 is the largest speaker in the new 600 Series – a floorstander designed to deliver outstanding power, accuracy and musicality. The 683 features the new Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, an FST™ midrange driver and new Dual Layer aluminium bass drivers. This new Dual Layer design sees an aluminium bass cone reinforced around its periphery with a second layer of aluminium, for a more effectively damped cone and higher break-up frequency.

The result is even richer, distortion-free bass. With exceptional performance across the frequency range, the new 683 fuses serious stereo and home cinema sound with amazing value for a speaker of this calibre. The new 684 floorstander is now slimmer than ever, yet still offers an amazing combination of serious power, spectacular audio performance and unbeatable value. That’s because of improved Kevlar bass/midrange drive units and its Decoupled Double Dome tweeter. Smaller, 5-inch drivers make for a slimmer speaker, yet Bowers & Wilkins engineers have improved audio performance by using smaller voice coils and Anti-Resonance Plugs in the drivers, to deliver smoother response and increased sensitivity.

The result is room-filling sound without a room-filling speaker cabinet – and the price is surprisingly slender too. The versatile new 685 is at home on a stand or bookshelf. Perfectly sized for most rooms, it combines new Decoupled Double Dome tweeters, Kevlar cones and Anti-Resonance Plugs with the value for which the 600 Series is renowned. The Decoupled Double Dome tweeter found throughout the new 600 Series builds on technology developed for the award-winning CM10.

The new 685 is destined to follow in the footsteps of its highly acclaimed predecessors, the 601 and the outgoing 685, and will become recognised as THE definitive affordable standmount loudspeaker With the new 686, small really is beautiful. At just 160mm wide, the 686 is the most compact speaker in the new 600 Series, but don’t underestimate its power and precision.

That’s thanks to its new Decoupled Double Dome tweeter and improved Kevlar driver with Anti-Resonance Plug. Its main 5-inch driver features a 25mm voice coil for higher sensitivity, and it now has a front rather than rear-firing Flowport™, making it ideal for placement near a wall. The 686 features a built-in bracket for easy wall mounting but it sounds just as good on a bookshelf – or just about anywhere else. Home cinema versatility The new 600 Series isn’t just great for hi-fi; with two centre speakers and three subwoofers, it’s ideal for home cinema. Bowers & Wilkins has prepared two suggested home cinema speaker packages based on the new 600 Series: the 684 Theatre, comprising 684 front speakers, an HTM62 centre speaker, 686 rear speakers and ASW610 subwoofer; and the 683 Theatre, which features 683 front speakers, an HTM61 centre-channel, 686 rear speakers and an ASW610XP subwoofer. Of course, you can also mix and match to create a bespoke system for any room size, need and budget.

With such versatility, the new 600 Series can fill the largest home cinema space – or fit into the smallest. The HTM61 is the larger of the new 600 Series centre speakers, a perfect match for the mighty 683 floorstanders. It looks better than ever thanks to its new symmetrical design. It sounds better too, with its new Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, two powerful 6.5-inch Dual Layer bass drivers and an FST midrange driver.

The result is a serious centre speaker ideal for the biggest of big-screen action. The new HTM62 is a slimmer centre speaker, but it still provides considerable power and exceptional precision. Like the HTM61, it features a Decoupled Double Dome tweeter for perfectly crisp detail. It also has two 5-inch Kevlar drivers for ample punch. The result is simply stunning sound without a space premium – making it ideal for most setups. Completing the range’s home cinema credentials are three superb subwoofers: the ASW610XP, ASW610 and ASW608.

These are carried across from the previous 600 Series but have updated finishes to match the new 600 Series speakers. The entire range is now available in two finishes, Black Ash and White, to stylishly and subtly integrate with any room design. The speakers feature painted baffles and complementary black or grey grilles, depending on the finish chosen.

Detailing in the new 600 Series is improved too, with a new fixed steel grille to protect the tweeter and a brushed aluminium, diamond-cut logo plate in a dark or light tint corresponding to the finish on the Black Ash and White models. Bowers & Wilkins new 600 Series combines unbeatable value and best-ever performance. Vastly improving on every facet of its predecessors, the new 600 Series comfortably surpasses the outgoing range’s already excellent reputation for outstanding value and exemplary audio performance.
